Chief Executive Officer
Tom Finkbiner serves as Chief Executive Officer at Tiger Cool Express and is the Senior Chairman and a Founding Member of the Intermodal Transportation Institute (ITI) at the University of Denver.
As Chairman, President & CEO of Quality Distribution, Inc., Finkbiner took the company public in 2003—the first major transportation IPO after 9/11. The IPO oversubscribed by eleven times at the top of the price range.
Finkbiner is a Contributing Columnist for the Journal of Commerce and a past Chairman of the Intermodal Association of North America where he was named the 2000 winner of the Silver Kingpin Award for career excellence in the intermodal industry.
He brings his deep experience in transportation to Tiger Cool Express, including his service as Executive Vice President of Marketing at Railex, a Member of the Board of Directors for Pacer International, President of Pacer Stacktrain Division, and Chief Intermodal Officer for Norfolk Southern.
Chief Financial Officer
Jim Hornsby serves as Chief Financial Officer for Tiger Cool Express, a post he prepared for by serving previously as Vice President and Controller for Pacer Stacktrain, and as Controller of the Highway Services and Supply Chain Divisions at Pacer International.
Hornsby previously served as Controller of the Western Division of MV Transportation.
He earned a Master of Science in Transportation Management from the University of Denver.
Chief Operating Officer
Theodore Prince serves Tiger Cool Express as Chief Operating Officer. He twice was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation to the Maritime Transportation System National Advisory Council and served as Intermodal Vice Chairman for four years.
Prince is the past chairman of the Intermodal Association of North America and a founding board member of the Foundation for Intermodal Research and Education. He is a Founding Board member of ITI where he served as ViceChairman for Freight and Vice-Chairman for Research and Policy. He is a member of the Eno Transportation Foundation Board of Advisors.
He brings extensive experience to Tiger Cool Express, including as Partner of Surface Intermodal Solutions, Board of Directors Member of SeaCo, President of Consolidated Chassis Management, Vice President of Intermodal and International for Kansas City Southern, and Chief Operating Officer for “K” Line America.
Prince has written extensively about the intermodal industry and has published more than 300 articles and columns.
Mr. Shughart has 30 years of experience in performance management, economic analysis, network operations, transportation engineering, decision support systems, and strategic planning. Mr. Shughart has worked on intermodal and railway projects in over 20 different countries.
For eight years, he led the Railway Consulting Practice at WorleyParsons, a global engineering and consulting firm. As Co-owner of Innovative Scheduling (a dot-com start-up) he developed and applied cutting edge train scheduling software, terminal simulation models, and other sophisticated operations research tools. As a Principal at CRA International in Boston, Shughart led projects for industry, governments, and law firms. Shughart worked 14 years at CSX in finance, economics, intermodal, performance improvement, operations, strategy, service design, operations research, and engineering.
With an M.S. in Transportation from M.I.T. and B.S. degrees in Business and Chemistry from Pittsburgh, Mr. Shughart serves on the Academic Advisory Board at the University of Florida, guest lectures at universities, and participates on several Research Oversight Panels for the Transportation Research Board, a division of the National Academy of Sciences.
Vice Chairman, Board of Directors
Tom Shurstad brings more than 40 years of experience in the transportation industry to the Board of Directors of Tiger Cool Express.
He served as President at Railex and Pacer International, and as President and CEO of Pacer Stacktrain. He also served as President of the Belt Railway Company of Chicago and the Chief Operating Officer of MUSB (domiciled in Malaysia). He served as President of the Terminal Railroad of St. Louis and as Vice President of Intermodal Operations and Vice President and General Manager Western Region at Southern Pacific Lines.
Shurstad served on Boards of the IANA, ITI, and TTX Company.
